Clinical Pilates is a fantastically effective way to rehabilitate from injury or pain or post surgery and benefits can be immediate. Clinical Pilates is a low impact form of movement with specific attention to quality of movement and postural alignment. Exercises are targeted to treat the area of concern and increase strength and performance.

Clinical Pilates

Pilates exercise is a great way to compliment your current training schedule or rehab from injury or simply just to enjoy being fit and healthy. It is a form of exercise that uses springs to provide resistance to movement. The key principles of pilates include breathing, concentration, centreing, control, precision and flow. With this in mind, we aim to provide an exercise program at the appropriate level that will challenge both mind and body.

It has become a staple in most physiotherapy clinics because we have seen the benefits so quickly and clearly. The beauty of it is that almost anybody and everybody will be able to complete a well tailored program becuase the equipment allows for so much adaptation. For this reason it is often used as a start point to progress into more specific training or exercise as people require.

Clinical Pilates is offered onsite in Thorneside on Brisbane’s Bayside.

Although Pilates based floor exercises may be utilised as a rehab method during home visit services, Clinical Pilates uses equipment that is not mobile. Both Reformer and Trapeze Table and a Wunda Chair, in addition to smaller accessories, are used in these 1 to 1 individual sessions.

Pilates treatment can be used for:

  • pregnancy

  • post natal

  • LBP

  • postural pain

  • chronic back, neck pain

  • Dance and sports injury rehabilitation

  • post surgery

  • return to work rehab

  • hip conditions

  • abdominal strengthening

  • stretching and muscle lengthening

  • Core stability and abdominal strengthening

*Prior to initial session, a musculoskeletal assessment is carried out as a separate appointment, to identify strengths and weaknesses and to get an understanding of how your body works and what you want to achieve out of your sessions. This is essential to provide a clinically effective session and also essential if patients are planning on claiming these sessions under private health rebate. Ongoing reassessment is also required throughout the process in order to satisfy requirements of health funds.

*These sessions may be claimed under your Private Health Insurance.

FAQ’s

+ Which locations/areas do you service?

I am based in the Redlands and Brisbane Bayside area.

As a mobile Physiotherapist I can travel to you and outside a 10km radius of Thorneside there is an additional travel cost of 1$ per km. Please contact me and we can chat about your specific location.

+ What hours do you work?

My work days and hours are: Wed and Fri 8.30am until 2.30pm Saturday 9.30am until 1.30pm. Evening appointments or outside of the above hours can be made by consultation.

+ Do I need a referral from a GP to see you?

No you don’t need a referral. Just contact me and we can chat about your specific requirements.

+ What happens when I visit you?

We sit down and have a chat first, where I ask a lot of questions about your main concern. I'll then do a physical exam, where I make observations about your movement, test your strength and do some specific tests for your concern. We make a provisional diagnosis and then provide some advice and look at treatment options.

+ How do I pay?

You can pay with card, cash or via direct debit on the day of your appointment.

+ Can I claim services on my health insurance?

Yes you can! I will provide a receipt and you can claim this back with your private health fund either online or in person. It depends on what health cover you have and what level you are on as to how much you will be reimbursed. Please check with your provider for more details.

+ How long do your sessions take?

Initial session are between 45 mins to 1 hour

Follow up appointments are 30 mins to 40 mins

Dance assessments and Musculoskeletal assessments are 1 hour

+ What should I wear to your sessions?

Comfortable clothing that is easy to remove if necessary. I am aware that people may be coming from or going to work etc and so we can work with whatever clothing in situ that you have. Cultural requirements for clothing is respected and assessment and treatment can work around this without too much difficulty.

For clinical pilates, you will need clothing that allows movement and stretching and is comfortable. Socks are also required preferably ones with grip on them. A towel required and water bottle.

Dance assessments - ballet wear is preferable.

+ Do you do Work Cover?

Yes. There is a small out of pocket cost for home visits. Clinic visits are fully covered by Work Cover.

+ Do you have HICAPS?

I do not have a Hicaps machine, however I do provide you with a receipt that you can then claim through your private health insurance at your convenience.

+ How many sessions until I start to feel better?

Physio should start to feel an improvement within 4 visits. Whilst we aim to make a change within day 1, particularly when it comes to pain management, this is dependent on the condition and how much tissue damage has occurred. Alternatively if your condition is something that has been with you for a number of years, you may be looking at an extended and slow progression.

We always use baseline measures to come back to and reassess to see the change. It is important that you can feel or recognise when there has been an improvement.

If the condition does not respond as appropriate, then it is important to reassess at this time and then implement an alternative approach that may include a new direction in treatment, referral for investigations or to see specialists etc.

With the right advice, this generally enables you to move forward with the condition.

+ Do you give exercises to do at home?

I am very much a believer in exercise. In my experience, I believe that most pain can be rectified by appropriate exercise. So yes, this is definitely part of my management.

Exercises will be personalised to your own level of capability and functional enough that you can do them in your own space.

+ Do you offer multiple sessions discount?

The prices are already discounted compared with normal market prices, so no further discounts are applied.

Purchasing multiple sessions at once might be a more convenient approach for you, especially if participating in ongoing clinical pilates sessions, but it is entirely your choice.

+ Do you run Pilates Workshops?

I would be happy to discuss pilates workshops with anyone who might be interested. Please call to discuss this further.
